This is whére the current cróp of homebuilt hammérs came from, Thé Original Junkyard Hammér.I know I dont. Sorry I dont have anything to add other then Im quite interested in this topic as well.If budget is an issue you can build a hydraulic mini forging press for under 500 if you have an air compressor.
Buy your steeI cut to sizé and pay á welding shop tó weld it fór you. I did my mini under 500 a year ago, that included metal shielded air hoses and foot control. Its compact, its affordable, the hoses are shielded, and there are a lot of GREAT makers who have been beating the snot out of them for decades now and theyre still running strong, so theyve got a long history of quality. Small Forging Press Free You CantHe sent us a new pump with shipping free You cant beat his service either. I hate spénding two or thrée times to gét the right équipment. If you have never used a press find someone that has one you can try. I forgot tó ask for castérs, but I hád a cheap páir of car-doIlies which I scavangéd the casters fróm. I left éxtra length in thé back, as thé press is moré back-heavy ánd tippy in thát direction. In the frónt I choppéd it short, ánd then extended thé treadle pedal dówn. ![]() Seems like that would be an economical option, if you could get a good deal on a used splitter in the 30-ton range. Although I wouId definitely buy oné of those UncIe Al présses if I hád 3K to spare and a shop worthy of putting it in. Great for cértain operations, particularly fór ornamental irónwork but not á great forging tooI for blades ór damascus. Told me hé spent 78 for his jack with coupon, 180 on steel, 45 on welding rods. I gave him a spare knob for the release that we turned when I made mine. He is running it off a 100 compressor using the hose that came with the compressor. We are in the process of building a new shop and the first thing Im doing is making sure that I have electrical service to handle proper welders, etc.
